Leslie Franklin is an award winning Canadian artist working mainly in alcohol ink and mixed medium. She combines elements of realism with free flowing, non-traditional vibrant colour producing expressive, unconventional results.
Leslie possesses a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology. She has a keen interest in wildlife conservation and preservation of habitat and often portrays animals in her work. Pushing the boundaries of art mediums, she experiments with interactions of mixed medium, exploiting the reactions of different density pigments as they compete for dominance on a substrate.
While working for the Department of National Defence and raising three daughters, she studied portraiture at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and also obtained a certificate in Composite Drawing for Law Enforcement through Stuart Parkes Forensic Associates. She has travelled to study in person under renowned artists Alvaro Castagnet, Jean Haines, John Lovett, Ken Hosmer and Janet Rogers. She is currently in her second year of pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba.
Leslie’s work is carried in galleries across Canada and has been featured in many group and solo shows. She has been awarded Associate Member Status with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
She resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where she maintains a full time studio practice.
